Energy management
We help save energy costs in Panta Rhei stores.
assignment
The company Panta Rhei approached us with a request for an analysis of consumption at individual branches with subsequent optimization. The chain of bookstores includes more than 60 brick-and-mortar stores, each of which is different and each has its own specifics. Despite the fact that most of the branches are located in shopping centers, the parameters of the cost component for energy are quite different everywhere. Simply put, in some places it cools with its own machines, while in other places the branch receives cooling from the shopping center. Some shopping centers create their own local distribution network, while others only re-invoice energy based on a key that is not always fully known.
OUR SOLUTION
In depth and in breadth. That’s exactly how our first steps began. We collected all the documents, especially energy invoices from individual branches – from these we were able to classify the branches mainly according to consumption per square meter and roughly determine the energy requirements from the point of view of the branch network. We also evaluated the prices – total and unit – together with our partner, we managed to recommend and negotiate adjustments to energy supply contracts for the customer Panta Rhei. This means that just with the energy audit of the branch network, without the use of technology, we were able to save the client thousands of euros per year.
Subsequently, we selected the first branch that we connected to the central energy dispatching. After the initial measurement of electrical energy, we expanded the solution to monitor air conditioning, which we subsequently expanded to include its management.
RESULTS
At the selected branch, we monitored electricity consumption, as well as heat and cold production and air conditioning parameters such as air exchange, CO2 and many others. After the first measurements, the results were a surprise. Expectations in the form of dominance of electricity consumption in the Café Dias cafe, which is part of the space, we found that its consumption is only less than 20% of the total consumption, despite the fact that it contains many energy-intensive devices, such as a bar dishwasher, a three-lever coffee machine, a grill, refrigerators, ice maker, etc.
After the first evaluation, we found that the largest consumption of the operation is one of the units of the air duct, which we connected to the central dispatching. We found that its operation can be optimized with the right settings and thus save more than 15% of its consumption. We also measured the failure of the cooling device, which we recommended to be serviced. In total, we saved approximately 20% of energy costs at the branch.
As part of the overall audit of the branch network, we managed to propose administrative measures that save energy costs without interfering with technology and thus without further investment.
We continue the “in-depth” analysis at other branches of the bookstore.
